AI calling in India is advertised between roughly ₹2 and ₹12 a minute in 2026, but almost nobody pays their vendor's headline rate. The number that matters is your effective cost per minute: everything you pay in a month divided by the minutes you actually used. This guide publishes the real arithmetic — for competitors where I could verify it from their own pages, and for Dvaarik including the line items that push our effective rate well above our ₹2/min headline.
The short answer
Published AI calling rates in India sit between about ₹2 and ₹12 per minute. Effective cost — what you actually pay per minute once subscriptions, setup, telephony and unused included-minutes are counted — commonly lands between ₹4 and ₹25.
Dvaarik charges ₹2/min for voice with simple per-minute billing and no subscription. That ₹2 is our permanent price, not a founding discount. But ₹2/min is not your all-in cost either, and further down I show exactly what our effective rate becomes at 500, 1,500 and 3,000 minutes a month once the phone number recharge and Care Plan are included. Any vendor who shows you only a headline per-minute number — including us — is showing you the least useful figure.
Why the headline per-minute rate is misleading
There are four ways a low advertised rate becomes a high real one.
- A monthly subscription with included minutes. If you do not use the included minutes, your effective rate is the subscription divided by the minutes you actually used — not the advertised overage rate.
- Setup and onboarding fees, often quoted separately or only on a sales call.
- Telephony charged on top. The per-minute AI rate and the per-minute phone-line cost are frequently different line items.
- Connect rates. On outbound campaigns you pay for dialling attempts that never become conversations.
Caller Digital, which ranks at the top of Google India for this exact query, makes the point plainly on its own pricing page: it puts the headline market range at ₹2–₹12/min and the effective range at ₹6–₹25/min, and notes that a ₹3/min quote typically costs ₹6–₹9/min in production. What the subscription maths actually looks like
Here is the arithmetic on a real published Indian price list. Aixclerate publishes two plans on aixclerate.com/pricing (checked 20 Jul 2026):
| Plan | Monthly | Minutes included | Overage | Effective ₹/min if you use exactly the included minutes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Starter | ₹9,999 | 500 | ₹7/min | ₹20.00 |
| Business | ₹24,999 | 2,000 | ₹7/min | ₹12.50 |
Nothing here is hidden or dishonest on their part — those are their own published numbers. The point is that a plan whose overage rate is ₹7/min has an effective rate of ₹20/min at the Starter tier, because the subscription is the dominant cost at low volume. This is the single most common way Indian buyers misjudge AI calling cost.
The pattern repeats across the market. Google's own AI Overview for AI receptionist queries in India currently anchors the category at ₹5,000 to ₹15,000 per month (google.co.in, checked 20 Jul 2026), which is a subscription framing, not a usage framing.
The vendors who will not publish a number at all
A striking amount of this market does not publish a rate. Caller Digital, the highest-ranking page for AI calling pricing in India, writes several thousand words about pricing transparency and then states directly that it is not the cheapest per-minute rate on a rate card, without publishing its own figure — prospects are directed to book a demo. Verified 20 Jul 2026.
That is a legitimate commercial choice, especially for outcome-based or enterprise deals where the answer genuinely depends on your call mix. But it has a practical consequence for you as a buyer: you cannot compare vendors who will not quote publicly without entering a sales process with each one. Budget two to three weeks if your shortlist is made of these.
What Dvaarik charges, in full
Every line item, including the ones that make our all-in number look worse.
| Item | Price | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Voice | ₹2/min | Permanent rate, not a founding discount. Simple per-minute billing. |
| Chat | ₹2 per conversation | Web chat, WhatsApp and Instagram |
| Phone number recharge | ₹2,000 per 30 days | Only if we provide the business number |
| Custom setup | ₹40,000 one-time | Currently free for our 10 founding clients |
| Care Plan | ₹5,000/month founding rate | List ₹12,000. Required for the first 3 months, optional from month 4 |
| Minimum first credit load | ₹10,000 | Credits never expire |
| GST | 18% on credit loads | All prices above are ex-GST; a ₹10,000 load is billed ₹11,800 |
| WhatsApp message costs | Billed by Meta to your own account | We add zero markup |
There is no subscription for the software itself and no per-seat fee. Credits draw down as you use them, and at a zero balance everything pauses rather than generating a surprise bill. All the prices above are exclusive of GST; 18% is added at the point you load credits, so the only place GST lands is the top-up itself.
The free setup is a trade, stated plainly: the build is free in return for the Care Plan at the founding rate for the first three months, and an honest testimonial plus a short case study after go-live.
Our own effective cost per minute
Applying the same test I applied to everyone else. These figures assume we provide the phone number, and include the Care Plan at the founding rate.
| Monthly minutes | Voice | Number | Care Plan | Total | Effective ₹/min |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 500 | ₹1,000 | ₹2,000 | ₹5,000 | ₹8,000 | ₹16.00 |
| 1,500 | ₹3,000 | ₹2,000 | ₹5,000 | ₹10,000 | ₹6.67 |
| 3,000 | ₹6,000 | ₹2,000 | ₹5,000 | ₹13,000 | ₹4.33 |
From month four the Care Plan becomes optional. If you drop it, the same three volumes become ₹3,000, ₹5,000 and ₹8,000 — an effective ₹6.00, ₹3.33 and ₹2.67 per minute.
Read this honestly: at 500 minutes a month we are not cheap. Our fixed costs are spread over too few minutes, exactly like the subscription plans I criticised above. Our model gets strong from roughly 1,500 minutes upward, and it gets stronger the more you use it, because the only component that scales is the ₹2/min itself. If you expect fewer than about 500 minutes a month, say so when you message us and we will tell you honestly whether this is worth doing yet.
The five questions to ask any vendor
Ask these in writing before you sign anything. The answers are more revealing than any rate card.
- What is my total bill at 1,000 minutes in month one, including setup and telephony? A single number, not a rate.
- Is telephony inside the per-minute rate or billed separately? This is the most common hidden doubling.
- What happens to unused included minutes? If they expire monthly, your effective rate rises every quiet month.
- On outbound, am I billed for dialling attempts or only connected minutes? Connect rates in India routinely sit well below 100 percent.
- What is the exit? Notice period, data export, and whether your phone number is portable.
When you should pick someone else
Genuinely, not as a rhetorical move.
- You have an in-house engineering team. Platform and API products let you build exactly what you want and will be cheaper per minute at scale than any done-for-you build, including ours.
- You need heavy international language coverage. Our ₹2/min covers all 22 scheduled Indian languages plus English. Global voice coverage sits on a higher tier, and several vendors are better positioned for a mostly non-Indian customer base.
- You are an enterprise with a procurement process. Vendors with formal enterprise motions, committed-volume contracts and dedicated infrastructure will fit your compliance and vendor-management requirements better than a founder-built agency will.
- Your volume is genuinely tiny. Under a few hundred minutes a month, the honest answer is often a cheap answering service or a good voicemail-to-WhatsApp routine, not an AI agent from anyone.
How to compare a Dvaarik quote against a subscription quote
Put both on the same basis. Take your realistic monthly minutes, then compute total monthly outlay for each option and divide by those minutes.
For a subscription vendor: monthly fee, plus overage at their rate for anything above the included bundle, plus any separate telephony, plus one twelfth of any setup fee if you want a first-year view.
For Dvaarik: minutes multiplied by ₹2, plus ₹2,000 if we supply the number, plus ₹5,000 for the Care Plan while it applies.
The crossover is usually not where people expect it. A ₹9,999 plan with 500 included minutes is cheaper than us only if you reliably use close to all 500 minutes and do not need the Care Plan. Above roughly 1,500 minutes a month the usage-based model tends to win clearly, and it keeps winning as volume grows.
Frequently asked questions
What is the cheapest AI calling agent in India in 2026?
On published base voice rates, ₹2/min is the lowest I have been able to verify in the Indian market as of 20 Jul 2026. But cheapest per minute and cheapest in practice are different questions. A vendor with a low overage rate and a high monthly subscription can easily cost more than a higher per-minute rate with no subscription, particularly below 1,000 minutes a month. Compare effective cost, not headline rate.
Is ₹2/min a promotional or founding rate?
No. ₹2/min is our permanent standard rate for Bharat voices covering all 22 scheduled Indian languages plus English. It is not scheduled to rise after a founding period. The founding-client benefits are separate: the free ₹40,000 setup and the Care Plan founding rate.
Does ₹2/min include the phone line?
If we provide the business number, the number itself is a separate ₹2,000 per 30 days, auto-debited from your credits. If you already have a number and we work with it, that recharge does not apply. This is exactly the kind of line item worth checking with every vendor you shortlist.
How is billing calculated — per second or per minute?
Whole minutes, which is the standard telecom convention in India. We do not claim per-second billing. A 65-second call bills as two minutes.
What does it cost to get started?
The minimum first credit load is ₹10,000. In month one, ₹2,000 goes to the phone number recharge and ₹5,000 to the Care Plan at the founding rate, leaving roughly ₹3,000 for actual usage — about 1,500 minutes of voice at ₹2/min, or around 1,500 chat conversations. Custom setup is ₹40,000 and is currently free for our 10 founding clients.
Is the Care Plan optional?
It is required for the first three months for founding clients — that is part of the trade for the free build — and optional from month four onward. It covers monitoring, agent tuning and behaviour changes, campaign and pricing setup help, a monthly report, priority founder support, unlimited Instagram automations and campaign boards.
What do WhatsApp messages cost?
Meta bills WhatsApp conversation charges directly to your own WhatsApp Business account at their published rates. Dvaarik adds no markup on top. You will see those charges from Meta, not from us.
At what call volume does usage-based pricing beat a subscription?
As a rule of thumb, from roughly 1,500 minutes a month upward, and the gap widens with volume. Below about 500 minutes a month, fixed costs dominate for every vendor including us, and a subscription plan whose included minutes you genuinely consume can work out cheaper. Run your own numbers with the missed-call loss calculator before deciding.
The honest summary: our ₹2/min is the lowest published base voice rate I have been able to verify in the Indian market, but your effective cost is what matters, and at low volume ours is not impressive. At real call volume it is very hard to beat, because nothing in our model scales except the minutes you actually use. Compare on effective cost, ask the five questions, and be suspicious of any vendor — us included — who leads with a headline rate and will not do the arithmetic in front of you. Every published rate in this guide is maintained in our India AI voice agent pricing index, sourced and dated.
