Wholesale vs Retail Pricing
Wholesale pricing is what a reseller pays the supplier; retail pricing is what the reseller charges the client. Their difference is gross spread, not final profit.
What does Wholesale vs Retail Pricing mean in practice?
Wholesale and retail prices describe two separate transactions. The supplier charges the reseller a wholesale rate for a defined unit or recurring product. The reseller chooses the client-facing retail rate or package and remains responsible for stating its units, allowances, overages, effective date and support scope. When both sides use the same unit, retail minus wholesale is gross spread per unit; total gross spread is client usage revenue minus the matching supplier usage debits. It is not final profit. Checkout fees, phone or social products, implementation, support, sales, refunds, bad debt, staff and overhead still have to be deducted. Dvaarik publishes one partner wholesale voice card: Essential ₹2.00, Standard ₹2.75, Studio HD ₹3.50 and Premium ₹4.25 per whole billed minute, checked 19 August 2026. The partner console refuses a retail price below the applicable wholesale floor. Each call records the wholesale and retail rates used, but the displayed difference is notional margin because the partner invoices the client directly; Dvaarik does not pay that difference out as earnings.
Step-by-step answer
How does Wholesale vs Retail Pricing work?
- 1
Name the product and billing unit
A price book should identify the exact voice grade or add-on, whether the unit is a whole billed minute, conversation, channel or 30-day plan, and the date on which the rate takes effect.
- 2
Calculate the matching wholesale debit
Multiply billed units by the supplier rate and add any separate recurring products. Dvaarik voice rounds each call up to whole minutes, so raw seconds cannot be multiplied directly by the per-minute rate.
- 3
Define the retail package
Set the client's rate, included allowance, overage and support scope in the same unit. The Dvaarik price book accepts a retail price at or above the wholesale floor; omitting a grade means the partner does not offer it.
- 4
Separate spread, contribution and profit
Gross spread subtracts only the matching wholesale input. Contribution also subtracts direct delivery and payment costs. Profit additionally accounts for acquisition, staff, tooling, refunds, bad debt and overhead.
- 5
Reconcile the actual ledger
Use the rates and billed units stamped on each transaction rather than a current price card that may have changed later. Compare the ledger with the client invoice and investigate missing, duplicated or differently scoped units.

Wholesale vs Retail Pricing FAQ
What is the difference between wholesale and retail pricing?
Wholesale pricing is the supplier charge to the reseller for a defined unit or product. Retail pricing is what the reseller quotes or invoices to the end client. The two prices should use an explicit unit, scope and effective date before their difference is compared.
How do you calculate gross spread on usage?
For matching units, multiply billed units by the retail rate and subtract billed units multiplied by the wholesale rate. Add separate products to both sides before comparing packages. Dvaarik voice calls use whole billed minutes, rounded up per call.
Is retail minus wholesale the reseller's profit?
No. Retail minus wholesale is gross spread on the matched input. Contribution also subtracts direct delivery and payment costs; profit additionally subtracts acquisition, staff, tooling, refunds, bad debt and overhead.
What are Dvaarik's current partner voice wholesale rates?
The public card checked 19 August 2026 lists Essential at ₹2.00, Standard at ₹2.75, Studio HD at ₹3.50 and Premium at ₹4.25 per whole billed minute. Phone channels, the Social Plan, chat, transfers and recording are separately priced products.
Can a Dvaarik partner set any retail price?
A partner chooses its client-facing price for each grade, but the console refuses a value below that grade's wholesale floor. A missing grade is not offered. The partner should separately disclose included units, overages, recurring products and support.
Does Dvaarik pay the displayed reseller margin?
No. Dvaarik debits the partner wallet at wholesale and records both wholesale and retail rates for reporting. The partner invoices the client directly, so the displayed difference is notional margin rather than money Dvaarik owes or pays to the partner.
Real example
Illustration only: 1,000 whole billed Essential minutes at ₹2.00 wholesale create a ₹2,000 usage debit. If an agency invoices those same minutes at ₹6 each, client usage revenue is ₹6,000 and gross usage spread is ₹4,000. That is not profit and is not a recommended retail price: partner top-up fees, phone or social products, support, sales and other business costs remain outside the example.
