IVR (Interactive Voice Response)
IVR (Interactive Voice Response) is an automated phone system that greets callers and routes them using a menu — 'press 1 for sales, press 2 for support' — or spoken keywords, without a human answering first.
In depth
IVR is the traditional way businesses handle inbound calls at scale: a recorded menu asks the caller to press a key or say a word, then routes the call to the right department, queue, or agent. It is good at deflecting and organising calls, but a classic IVR does not actually answer questions, book appointments, or qualify a lead — it only routes to a human who does. For Indian SMBs this is often the wrong tool: menus frustrate callers, after-hours calls still go unanswered because no agent is on the line, and regional-language callers struggle with English menus. An AI voice agent is the modern alternative to IVR: instead of 'press 1', it holds a real conversation in the caller's language, answers the question, checks availability, books the slot, and only transfers to a human when it genuinely needs to. If your callers are hanging up on menus or your team misses calls after hours, replacing IVR with a conversational AI receptionist usually converts more enquiries than adding more menu options.
Real example
A clinic's old IVR said 'Press 1 for appointments, press 2 for reports'. After 6 PM, pressing 1 rang an empty desk and callers hung up. An AI voice agent instead answers directly in Telugu or Hindi, offers the next free slot, books it, and sends a WhatsApp confirmation — no menu, no missed call.

Cloud Telephony
Cloud telephony in India is business phone infrastructure delivered over the internet instead of office PBX hardware or physical phone lines: virtual numbers, cloud calling, call routing, recordings, logs, and voice APIs.
Outbound AI Calling
Outbound AI calling is when an AI voice agent places phone calls on a business's behalf — typically to call back the business's own leads and enquiries within seconds, qualify them, and book appointments. Done properly, it calls only people who contacted the business first; it is not cold calling.
Missed Call Alert
A missed call alert notifies a business whenever a call goes unanswered, so the enquiry can be followed up. Modern AI systems go further — they automatically call the missed number back and start the conversation.
